Police officers suspended amid beating probe in Philippines

(CNN) -- Eleven police officers in a Manila police precinct have been suspended after footage emerged of a detainee being beaten, officials said.

Metropolitan Manila Police Chief Leocadio Santiago told CNN that officials relieved the 11-member police station Wednesday and ordered its commander, Senior Inspector Joselito Binayug, investigated for criminal acts. Continue ►

No Meeting Set on Mosque Despite Offer From New York Governor

The developers behind a proposed Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero deny any talks with New York Gov. David Paterson about plans to move the location of the facility, even as Paterson's office says it has renewed efforts to broker a deal over the project.

A written statement from the Cordoba Initiative, the group pushing to build the Islamic center in lower Manhattan, said no meetings have been scheduled between Imam Feisel Abdul Rauf and Paterson, "nor have there been any communications between the offices of Cordoba Initiative and the governor." Favre takes the field for 2nd season with Vikings

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -- Brett Favre is back on the field with the Vikings. The three-time MVP started his second season in Minnesota on Wednesday, wearing a helmet, shoulder pads and red quarterback's jersey as he worked out with his teammates on their practice field. After staying away from training camp, Favre was practicing less than 24 hours after the teams sent three of his closest friends to Mississippi to bring him back following another summer of indecision. HBO not streaming on Netflix anytime soon

If you were hoping to see HBO's content show up on Netflix's streaming service, things aren't looking too good for you. In an interview with Bloomberg, HBO Co-President Eric Kessler went on the record as saying "there is a value in exclusivity," and that people would "pay a premium" for it. That exclusivity comes in the form of HBO's own online streaming service called HBO Go, which the company launched in February. Continue ►

Salmonella Outbreaks Spur Nationwide Egg Recall

Aug. 17, 2010 -- Eggs are behind a nationwide salmonella outbreak that caused hundreds of illnesses each week in June and July. The nationwide egg recall involves more than a dozen major brands that got eggs from Wright County Egg in Galt, Iowa. CDC and state investigators in California, Colorado, and Minnesota found clusters of salmonella food poisoning among people who ate eggs at the same restaurants.
